They might hurt so badly it stops you riding, it might even put you off for good. Don't falter... here's a few things you can do about it...
Get Padded Cycling Shorts
Yep. Proper lycra ones, use them as boxer shorts and for the love of god DO NOT WEAR ANYTHING UNDERNEATH THEM!!!! I made that mistake and wondered why everything still hurt. The whole point is that this is what makes contact with your skin and prevents friction. And talking of friction...
Butter up your buns
Yep, you can get "lubricant" for your barse/arse/bits which reduces friction. I use a product called Butt'r.
Sure, you'll feel like a dickhead putting it on (one of the many reasons I'm glad there are no cameras in the works toilets) but the benefits outweigh the 2 minutes of feeling daft.
Get a new Saddle
When you bought your bike, unless it's really expensive, it will have come with a crappy stock saddle that allows your bike to be just about rideable. Now... What saddle you get depends on you but one inexpensive and very popular choice is the Charge Spoon. It looks like a razor blade but is surprisingly comfortable.
Adjust your saddle
The height and depth of your saddle can alter where the pressure of your riding goes. If it's too high it can end up all on the perineum and... ouch..
You can even get a professional bike fitter to look you over and make sure your bike is set up properly. This will make a difference in numerous ways.
So there's a start. I'm sure there are other ways but my n00bness hasn't found them yet.
